Karnataka Police gets tech-savvy, uses drone squad to check crimes


The Karnataka Police has got a drone squad, which will be used to check every and any sort of crime, and they are equipped with high definition 18.2 megapixel cameras, with night vision capability.

From monitoring VVIP events to spying on illegal mining to chain snatching to other crimes, these Phantom 4 drones have the ability to track activities and movements from 5 kms away.

The 12 drones and trained operators will be distributed among the districts of Koppal, Yadgir, Ballari, Bidar, Raichur and Kalaburagi districts. When they were deployed in operations against sand mining, we masked the illuminated parts with tape, and with its night vision capability, were able to observe their activity without being noticed.

As of now, the drones are being operated in the Karnataka-Andhra Pradesh borders where About 20 policemen have been trained to operate these drones, and been exclusively assigned to the task.
